Rashid Khan prepares to join the pro tour as Indian golf’s new best thing

Rashid Khan, age 19. Likes cricket, loves to dance, loves 3 Idiots. Just your regular teenager, apart from the fact that he’s currently ranked 18 in the world amateur golf rankings (a list where he already scorched in at No 11 last year). “Golf may not strike you as the world’s most dynamic game, but in fact it is! You need to develop a certain set of skills and ability to plan your moves, so the challenges of the game give you an unbelievable rush.”

An early enthusiasm for the sport, helped along by The Golf Foundation, allowed him to take up the sport professionally. The wins have accumulated steadily over the last three years: the FALDO series, the Singapore Amateur tournament, the AJGT Individual. “This is my last year as an amateur, so I am looking forward to the Asian Games this November,” he says. “Next year I will turn pro.” That had better be a promise.
