Chocolates and cooking…music and massages... aromatherapy and refloxology.... This is the stuff that spells ultimate happiness for stressed souls and tired bodies. Three haute ladies in conversation with Verve about the way they wind down when they’re not busy soaking up the glare of the public eye and making news with their work

Ah, wellness. What a multitude of meanings the word contains – to say nothing of the multitude of means to the end. If the agony and ecstasy of foot reflexology sends a tingle up your spine, it may well be a soothing aromatherapy session that works wonders for another. A vigorous game of tennis or squash could spell out happiness for somebody, whilst aqua Pilates, step aerobics or just a brisk walk could get someone else’s heart pumping with joy. Listening to music, dancing, reading... watching the rain while munching hot buttered toast…they all qualify. Yes, even the last. Anything goes if it has the power to rejuvenate your body, mind and soul.

Neha Dhupia

Edgy actor and getting edgier. Watch out for her in Vipul Shah’s Action Replay and Saurabh Shukla’s I am 24, coming out soon.

“I’ve done it all when it comes to massages, since I travel a lot – from hot stone therapy to Swedish to Balinese. The latter is my favourite - sheer heaven! I usually go to a massage on an empty stomach, so I’m famished by the time it’s over. Afterwards, a light meal of steamed fish with ginger and lemon grass followed by a chocolate. My ultimate wellness experience!”

Other faves: Warm food, a great workout, swimming, or volleyball.

Raima Sen

Powerhouse performer and royal inheritor, granddaughter of the legendary Suchitra Sen.

“I love having a hot oil hair massage complete with all the spa treatments that go with it. I also love my weekly body massage following my gym workout, and have been weight training recently – great stress buster! Listening to music on a drive relaxes me completely; anything from Bollywood to rock.”

Other faves: Reading autobiographies, playing Scrabble, blackjack on the computer.

Beige dress with floral embroidery, by Rehane, Chennai. Gold bracelet from Bungalow 8; bow diamanté ring, from The Oak Tree. Both in Mumbai. Diamante shoes, Raima’s own.

Drashta Sarvaiya

New Age designer and champion chef whose name means ‘visionary.’ Once head designer for Indo-Irish label Ashley Blaine.

“I begin my morning with almonds soaked overnight in milk and an hour-long yoga session to get me going for the rest of the day. I change my routine every day depending on my mood. Sometimes it’s just breathing exercises and meditation; if I’m feeling especially hyper on other days, I may do 50 surya namaskars at a go!”

Other faves: Cooking, eating, resisting all diet products
