They’re the here. They’re the now. In our annual salute to New Age talent, Verve unveils the edgiest and brightest faces to watch out for this year

Amit Aggarwal,
fashion designer, 29

Hometown Mumbai, then New Delhi.

So far: I graduated from NIFT, Delhi with multiple awards. I worked as an apprentice with Paris couturiers Seredin and Vasilev?and was a design assistant with Tarun Tahiliani. I moved on to head the design studio at Creative Impex. My label Morphe was launched in collaboration with the Creative group. We participated at various trade fairs in London, Paris and Delhi, and started retailing from stores across the country, Europe and the Middle East. I made my runway debut at Wills India Fashion Week in October, last year.

Fashion: a job or a lifestyle? Whatever I’m feeling in my personal life transcends into the clothes I make, so it’s a lifestyle.

Embroideries or textures? I work towards an outcome that will be beautiful; embroideries and textures are both means to achieving that.

Designing for skinny, leggy lasses or bootilicious babes? All clothes change with the person that’s in them. I create and let the wearer take over.

Multiple Indian fashion weeks or a single one? A single one for sure but with a lot of editing.

YSL or Chanel? I’ve always been an YSL admirer. The perfect blend of classic and modern is inspiring. Stefano Pilati has brought the otherwise dying brand back. I admire Karl for the invincible fashion figure that he is but Chanel’s present collections differ from my aesthetics.

London or New York? For fashion, London. It has an edgier vibe.

Sabya or Pratap? Sabya blends cultures like he’s lived each one of them. But Pratap is where my god lies; I walk into his stores in lieu of my temple visits.
