Bubbly and baubly spread cheer, for a happy new year!

WINTER SUNSHINE

Turmeric, egg yolk, lemon, buttercup, canary, taxi and mustard brighten up a chilly morning. The yellows make a prominent appearance in this season’s colour palette. Of course it is not about being like Uma Thurman in Kill Bill (unless you can pull it off), but layering with other pieces, and combining the happy shade with neutrals – whether paring it down or creating stark contrasts. Or if you prefer to stay more subtle, add a touch of vibrancy with coloured accessories. No, you will not look like a light bulb, but you sure will light up a dreary day.

NECK KNACK

Hang some unconventional stuff from your pretty neck this season. Pendants in the shape of dress forms, large safety pins, curtain rings, coins, a pocket watch, locks, keys, fabric scraps...phew! Imagination is the key element in this craft class. And of course you need supreme confidence, peppered with a bit of nonchalance. But while a little improvisation is allowed, do ensure that your neck fetches admiring/ envious/flattering gasps or compliments. Comments like “So, you’re strangling yourself today?” mean that you need to abort mission straightaway! Re-learn the trick – this is not DIY, but designer DIY. There is a difference (a few extra zeros in the figure), so your neck-buddies may as well look like they are worth it.
