Verve picks the best art of the month from Mumbai and Delhi

Landscape is visualised by 15 artists in Lay of the Land at The Viewing Room (Elysium Mansion, 7 Walton Road, Colaba Causeway, Mumbai;

Showcasing in Delhi after 18 years is a retrospective of Gieve Patel’s on view at Gallery Threshold (F-213/A, Lado Sarai, New Delhi;
Tel: 011-41829181) from September 24 until October 24.

More than 300 ‘Artist Picture Postcards’ (personalised on acid-free archival paper) featuring 58 artists, come together in Card-o-logy held at Hacienda Gallery (Great Western Building, Ground Floor, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai;
Tel: 022-22837232) from September 4 to 18. Watch out for Sunil Padwal, Shruti Nelson, Sonatina Mendes, Pratul Dash and Haren Vakil amongst others.

Cholamandal-based Nandagopal’s narrative sculptural work is in a first solo exhibit in Mumbai. The Wheel As Metaphor & Other Sculptures is on view until September 6, 2009 at the Museum Art Gallery (K Dubhash Marg, Kala Ghoda, Mumbai) and then moves to Art Musings (No. 1 Admirality Building, Colaba cross lane, Mumbai;
Tel: 022-22163339) until the end of the month.

The DARK SCIENCE of Five Continents is the inaugural opening (from September 21 to November 5) at Gallery BMB (Queens Mansion, Fort, Mumbai; Tel: 022-22000061), a new space launched in Mumbai by Bose Krishnamachari, Yash Birla and Devaunshi Mehta. Look out for Jon Kessler from New York, Jake and Dinos Chapman from London, George Osodi from Africa, Wag Qingsong from China, Riyas Komu from Mumbai and Tunga from Brazil.

If you haven’t already caught The Monsoon Festival 4 presented by Red Earth in August, you can take some notes on climate change before September 18. Don’t miss Waswo X. Taking a step forward in visual art, Towards a New Viewership/Audience is a group show on at Art Konsult (23, Hauz Khas Village, New Delhi; Tel: 011-26523382) until September 13.

Delhi-based Josh PS explores the relationship of images to history and memory in a monochrome palette in his first Mumbai solo at Galerie Mirchandani + Steinruecke (2 Sunny House, 16/18 Mereweather Road, Colaba, Mumbai; Tel: 022-22023030) all through September.
