Dancer Preeti Vasudevan is a picture of grace and poise

Winner of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award for Best Choreography, Preeti Vasudevan, narrates her wondrous journey with an infectious passion. Not one to miss an opportunity, she put together an International cast in days and flew down from New York to perform at the recent Mahindra Theatre Festival in New Delhi. At the root of Preeti’s vast experience is Bharat Natyam with the Dhananjayans. An unexpected year in Japan meant observing and learning Nihon Buyo – a form of Japanese modern dance. A stint at the Laban Dance Center where she mastered choreography and movement analysis in London happened just as unexpectedly. Martha Graham, the first modern dance choreographer in America, was her inspiration and an association with the Centre National de la Danse in Paris rounds up her astonishingly global experience in contemporary dance. Thresh, her dance company, creates original contemporary dance-theatre working with both eastern (Indian) and western movement forms. Deeply committed to the environment, the dancer is also using performing arts as a tool to educate teachers and students in rural communities to learn and appreciate the importance of water and nature. Worthy moves.
