Indulge in a spot of pampering with these four destinations that make shopping a positively pleasurable experience

Saks Fifth Avenue
Located just across the street from Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue, a New York landmark, has been dressing the well-turned-out, for years. Whether you are looking for accessories, clothes, jewellery or cosmetics, this is a one-stop shop that houses some of the best labels available. In addition, the Elizabeth Arden Red Door Salon and Spa and Café SFA, famous for its simple yet well-executed fare and impressive views of Rockefeller Center and St Patrick’s Cathedral, make it a tourist’s must-visit shopping destination.

Harrods
From its modest beginnings in 1849 as a small grocer’s shop, Harrods has gone beyond being a mere department store to becoming one of the most renowned tourist spots in Europe. From extensive food halls to cosmetic departments, bookshops and designer and accessory labels, this Knightsbridge store, draws you to spend hours or even days browsing. And, most likely, you will come away with that famous green bag that holds all purchases here.

Bloomingdale’s
It all started when brothers, Joseph and Lyman Bloomingdale began selling a 19th century fad – the hoop skirt – in their Ladies’ Notions Shop in New York’s Lower East Side. In the late 1800s, the brothers sold a variety of European fashions marking the beginning of what would become one of the best upscale stores in the world. A firm believer in the philosophy, ‘It’s not just what you buy – it’s what you take home too’, the store came up with designer shopping bags that have become collector’s items that make as much of an impact as the exclusive merchandise and customised services the store is known for.

Galeries Lafayette
This splendid shopping haunt has with time, earned a reputation for not only being a trendsetter in the Parisian fashion world with its choice of some of the best luxury labels but also serves as a launch pad for young talent. Besides the exclusive designer brands, the store has its own deluxe grocery counter, six restaurants, a travel agency, Internet access and more. This spectacular building with its splendid views of Paris offers not just a world class shopping experience but great sightseeing as well.
