The new Ayurvedic treatment at Taj Wellington Mews is the last word in cleansing the body, discovers Verve

From thorough cleansing to rejuvenation, Ayurveda helps you to detox like nothing else can. The results are fantastic; a single treatment can inject that vital glow and life into dull and tired skin. The Partial Dinacharya, (dinacharya means daily routine) a two-hour treatment at Taj Wellington Mews includes the following steps to take care of your sense organs:

Dantadhavana – This involves cleaning of the teeth and gums. A herbal powder called Dashanakanti Choornam is given which has arimedas, darvi and lavang as the main herbs which clean and strengthen the teeth and gums. This choornam is first applied on the lower teeth first, then the upper teeth and then sideways.

Anjana – It is the application of a freshly prepared liniment in the eyes and is made up of cow’s ghee, castor oil and camphor. This is applied on the lower eyelid and takes out the impurities from the eyes and also improves vision.

Nasya — Is the nasal medication. A warm herbal oil is applied on the sinus area, on the palms and soles of the feet, and a mild fomentation is given and then a medicated herbal oil called anu tailam is applied in the nostrils to remove phlegm from the sinuses and is also good for diseases above the neck.

Kawal and Gandusha — Comprises holding the medicine in the mouth and gargling the medicine. Here, a herbal oil (arimedas tailam) is held in the mouth (80-100 ml) for five to eight minutes. Later, it’s moved in the oral cavity in upward, downward and sideways directions. This strengthens the cheek muscles and also prevents bad breath.

Dhoompana — This means inhalation of medicated fumes through nostrils. In this treatment, a dhoomvarti (made up of cow’s ghee and turmeric applied on cotton cloth) is lit and the medicated fumes are inhaled through the nostrils and then exhaled through the mouth. This clears the excess phlegm which has not come out with the nasya treatment.

Abhyanga — A warm medicated oil application all over the body with minimal to moderate pressure. This is done in seven positions. The green gram paste is applied like a scrub after the treatment to take out the oil.

Snana — This means bath. A warm medicated amla water is used. The amla fruits are soaked in warm water overnight and the solution is prepared. This has rejuvenating properties.
