Drashta Sarvaiya paints the town in multicoloured hues

Drashta Sarvaiya’s glocal designs have made her one of the hottest designers the Indian fashion industry has produced in recent years. Her creations have drawn comparisons with international icons like Lanvin, whom she cites as a favourite, and like the former her distinct use of colours makes her work stand a cut above the rest. Playing with jewel tones like rubies and florid ochres her cocktail dresses are feminine without resorting to fluff and frills. “I love colours. For me colours are emotions, feelings… they set the mood. Life is my inspiration. My creations are meant for the women of today.” The feminine silhouettes, geometric patterns and touches of bling of her ensembles cast Bipasha Basu in a sultry glow on the sets of Goal. And while the young couturier is know for her bold palette, her personal wardrobe must-haves are far more basic. “A white T-shirt, a pair of dark blue denims that fit well and easy tunics,” she quips, exuding the same “easy chic” that her clothes do. But don’t expect to see her on the runway anytime soon. Her next project is taking her away from fashion week madness to a cinematic set in South Africa.
