State-of-the-art laser treatments to help you put your best face forward, says Faye Remedios

For all those who want a flawless complexion and feel that their creams and potions aren’t doing a super successful job there is an alternative now. These lasers promise to work miracles and get you the perfect skin you dreamed of. Dr Apratim Goel, owner Cutis Klinic and dermato-consultant to L’Oréal Paris gives us the low-down.

Titan Laser
An infra-red device to tighten skin, this non-surgical face lift is a great alternative for those who want to avoid cosmetic surgery. It works for anyone who has loose, sagging skin and can be used on other areas like the neck, abdomen and upper arms as well.
“It basically heats the deeper layers of skin which in turn contracts the collagen and causes new collagen formation, helping skin look tighter and younger,” explains Goel. “An average session takes around a half hour and most clients don’t even require anaesthesia. Results are seen in about six to eight weeks,” she adds. Considered one of the most popular treatments in Hollywood, Goel says that it has recently gained popularity here.

Dermaroller
Used to get rid of pitted scars that develop post acne, burns, wrinkles or stretch marks, the dermaroller has multiple tiny needles which create injuries on the skin. “When the body heals, there is new collagen formation which plumps up the skin and fills scars. I first saw this at the Eurasian Congress Of Anti-ageing (EACC) held in Bangkok a couple of years ago,” elaborates Goel. After a proper consultation, a local anaesthetic cream is applied all over the face for 45 minutes. After the face gets numb, it is further sterilised and the roller is used. “There is very little redness and swelling for a day or two. But one can use make-up the very next day and resume work. The one thing to watch out for is duplicate Chinese and Korean rollers which can be harmful. The original one is a French product and clients must ensure that their doctor has one,” she adds.

Laser Genesis
For a quick lunch time treatment that allows you to resume work in an hour with a rejuvenated visage, the Laser Genesis is a new technique that stimulates the collagen inside the skin without damaging the outer layer. “This is a good option for those who want to hold on to their youthful skin. However, those with active acne scars or a keloid tendency should avoid this. It takes about 40 minutes and the microsecond laser beams scan the skin and travel deep to target the blood and collagen. This along with a combination of vitamin C, serums and peptides have given tremendous results,” says Goel.
