Kunaal Roy Kapur has designs on 70 mm

Straddling the role of director and actor comes easy to Kunaal Roy Kapur. After acting in last year’s offbeat Loins of Punjab Presents, he is now directing The President Is Coming. The theatrical juggernaut about the American president’s visit to India was so well received that it has been adapted into a movie. So what does the film offer? Konkona Sen Sharma to begin with. “The characters have been modified and it has a different end.” With a family history steeped in the performing arts, it’s a logical enough step for Kunaal who calls himself “a victim of my genes.” While he enjoys both, he insists direction gives vent to all the things he’s interested in, from art to camera to performances. “It’s a deeper involvement because you can’t just think of one thing.” His options are always open, though.
