Ritu Kumar’s new couture line is for the confident young Indian bride

The Tsarina of Indian couture, Ritu Kumar, unveils her new Bridal range for 2008. True to her signature style of subtle opulence, Kumar has created a collection for the modern Indian bride, who mixes the contemporary with tradition. The subdued colour palette has splashes of jewel-tones, and the mood is somewhat vintage, yet regal. The ensembles are specially created for young brides, and therefore, the saris, cholis, odhnis and lehengas are fresh and sensual in their style. Benarasi brocades, jacquards, silk chiffons and crépes form the base for Kumar’s beautifully intricate embroideries in classic Indian motifs. Gota ribbons, brocade borders, and zardozi add the quintessential metallic element. Any bride dressed in a Ritu Kumar couture creation would feel confident in the effortless luxury of high quality craft, which makes a statement without being overt or loud.
