Prateik Babbar’s low-key debut makes high impact

Though he probably occupies the least screen time in this summer’s teen flick Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na, a few silver-screen moments were all Prateik Babbar needed to make a lasting impression. Unlike other aspiring actors who ride on their parents’ success, Prateik’s flying solo. He insists he’s looking for “roles with substance”, much like his parents. But working in the shadow of Raj Babbar and Smita Patil doesn’t intimidate him. “My mother inspires me; she’s a legend. And my parents’ success as actors only pushes me to be as successful and recognised.” He describes his debut film “as a great journey, really worthwhile.” As Amit Wadia, he stands out in the part of a reclusive, troubled and artistic brother to Genelia D’Souza’s Aditi. Is he as shy in real life too? “I guess people would know only after they’ve met me, then they’d get a better idea of what I’m all about.” Quite the show stealer, this one.
