Lekha Washington scores with her IPL stint

“I believe the first impression most people have of a woman holding a mike is that she’s eye candy, not a store of knowledge. That said, I have managed to hold my own here,” says Lekha Washington about her experience of interviewing cricketers at the Indian Premier League. The former VJ has always loved being in front of the camera but her middle-class upbringing held her back from picking performing arts as a career. Instead, she focused on product design, filmmaking and sculpting. Cricket is an obvious passion. “The IPL was so much bigger than any of us could have imagined. I didn’t go looking for it, it found me! After two months of watching matches, hanging out with cricketers and living, eating breathing cricket, I can safely say it’s part of my system now.” Lekha lists her three exclusive interviews with Shane Warne as her best experiences to date. After her stint in Tamil films, does Bollywood entice? “Absolutely! If I find the right team and role, I’d be a happy bunny!”
