Anuj Sharma’s latest handmade Lakmé Fashion Week collection scores on innovation

Designer Anuj Sharma describes his outfits as “clothes with both soul and oodles of attitude.” For his collection at the Lakmé Fashion Week, he used no needle, thread or scissors. “Called Eyelet It Be, it was done with one rectangular piece of fabric using eyelets punched and hammered into the cloth to make garments that can be worn in two ways – the front can be worn as the back and vice versa. In fact, one size can fit at least three sizes up. And it’s all done by hand. No electricity or energy was used,” he enthuses. Anuj, who believes fashion is all about individuality, loves every bit of the terrific response he got for this line. Loath to design for any particular market, he makes clothes that can be worn by everyone. Though he admires fellow designers like Narendra Kumar, Sabyasachi, Manish Arora, Issey Miyake and Hussein Chalayan, Anuj draws inspiration from people and their day-to-day stories for his own ensembles. The self-confessed sports junkie loves “watching cricket, walking around and having cups of tea at the National Institute of Design (NID).”
