The Chedi Club at Ubud, Bali, through its green-fringed expanse, offers a sheer health adventure

There is something about Bali that breathes a balm for your soul. Ensconced in the lap of nature, The Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah unravels across 20 self-contained suites and villas – three swanky one-bedroom spa villas, nine one-bedroom pool villas, a utopic two-bedroom estate villa and seven one-bedroom suites, spanning five hectares of magical gardens strewn with lotus-laced ponds and unusual trees. Decorated with a clever contemporary blend of traditional flair and modern Balinese accents each of the private spa villas houses a private massage suite, sauna, cold plunge, semi outdoor rainforest shower and bathtub. Alternatively, every pool villa comes equipped with a personal 10-metre pool with a sundeck, with a dining balé that melts into the walled tropical garden.

Located at three kilometres from the heart of Ubud, the Tanah Gajah estate, takes its name from the neighbouring Goa Gajah elephant temple. Sprawling along the fertile stretch between the Petanu and Pakrisan rivers, it was crafted in the early 1980s by leading Indonesian architect and interior designer Hendra Hadiprana as a weekend retreat for his family. Now, under the able management of GHM (also at The Legian and The Club at The Legian, Bali), the resort offers the travelling personal butler service to its residents.
