Ishq Bector is quirkily impressive

His ultra-wacky hit song Aye Hip Hopper, about a love story between a hip-hop artiste and his ‘hot bai’ that is playing on most music channels presently is pretty infectious. But if you thought that was goofy, you have to wait for Dakku Daddy, his next video which is “very, very stupid” but just as enjoyable, promises 26-year-old rapper, IshQ Bector. The self-confessed black sheep of the family—he was trained to be an acupuncture specialist— had to work hard to win his dad over when he gave up medicine to make music. But the singer, songwriter, producer and actor is thoroughly enjoying the challenge of popularising hip-hop, a genre known for its edgy, often politically incorrect lyrics. The current wave of electronica in India only makes the task harder. But IshQ is undeterred. “By now hip-hop is a culture that has invaded every country right down from the dress sense to the street lingo; kids can’t get enough of it but ensuring the common Indian also enjoys it requires a delicate mix of elements.” Given a chance, he’d love to work with A.R. Rahman, Will.I.Am and Timbaland. For now he’s happy creating drama with his conceptual tracks.
