Histrionics of the female kind

All the world’s a stage. And when the actors are all women, things get just that wee bit more interesting, poignant and fun. After Shirley Valentine and The Vagina Monologues comes another theatrical journey into the female mind. Directed by Hidaayat Sami and written by Croatian author Miro Gavran — both men — All about Women weaves together five different stories about the dynamics of relationships between women. The cast includes the likes of Ratnabali Bhattacharjee, Prerna Chawla, Nimrat Kaur, Tejaswini Kolhapure, Vandana Pandey, Mallaika Shenoy and Shivani Tanksale. Sami survived the chick-theatre production and lives to tell the tale. “The actors are all good friends. That made it fun.” The director says he was drawn to the play because of its unique form. “The stories explore a range of negative emotions — jealousy, betrayal, insecurity—but beneath it all, the characters are warm and caring. Women will love the play, of course. But men should watch it and learn from it.” Amen to that!
