Enter Samit Basu’s world of demons, heroes and chimaeras

When Samit Basu won a story-telling competition in third grade, it was probably the preface to the many chapters that followed in the young author’s life. Conforming to educational pressures, Samit joined IIM Ahmedabad to do his MBA, only to drop out within a month. Why? Because he had figured out the ending of his first novel: The Simoquin Prophecies. Fascinated by ancient myths embedded in various cultures and the common ground they shared, he felt the need to reinvent them to reflect contemporary sensibilities. He says, “Fantasy has often been called the dark mirror to reality. It’s only successful when its links to the real world are strong and perceptible.” After his third novel, The Unwaba Revelations, Samit begins work on a comic book series with Duran Duran, another one with filmmaker Terry Gilliam and a novel within the next two years.
