Maria Louis captures the most interesting of art and photography this March

CITY LOG – 07/08

The Goa-based artist has been deeply influenced by the changing urban landscape in cities like Mumbai and Kolkata, where he has spent his formative years. This collection of acrylics on canvas focussing on subjects like dabbawalas and labourers revolves around the search for identity by a country steeped in a centuries-old tradition whilst hurtling towards modernisation.

GROUP SHOW
BLACK & WHITE

To mark their 8th anniversary, the gallery presents a show of black and white works in a range of media by 40 artists, both well established and young, like S.H. Raza, Akbar Padamsee, Krishen Khanna, Manu and Madhavi Parekh, Paresh Maity, Jaideep Mehrotra, Rini Dhumal, Lalitha Lajmi, Milburn Cherian, Suman Roy, Nilesh Kinkale, Prashant Salvi and Heeral Trivedi.

SANTANA GOHAIN
INVISIBLE MOVEMENT

The presence of the viewer is integral to the minimalist works in this solo exhibition of paintings (oil-based colour, graphite and paper on board) by the Vadodara-based artist, as the darkly polished surfaces constantly change, according to the angle from which they are seen.

Featuring work by leading 20th and 21st century artists from South Asia, including Indian modern masters M.F. Husain, F.N. Souza, V.S. Gaitonde, S.H. Raza, Tyeb Mehta, Ram Kumar as well as leading contemporary artists Atul Dodiya, Bharti Kher, Jitish Kallat, T.V. Santosh, Jagannath Panda and Talha Rathore.

SARIKA MEHTA
PULLED FROM THE ROOT

The young Ahmedabad-based artist’s first solo exhibition records her successful transition from printmaking to painting and includes oils, watercolours and prints that display her engagement with nature, music, sport, time and other metaphysical preoccupations.
