Kavita Chougule, founder of Tiger Hill Vineyards, believes that fashion can be bought but style is inherent. And her style, like her wines, has only gotten better with time. Verve spends a day with her at her four favourite hang-outs and comes away charmed

As far as clothes go, Kavita Chougule knows exactly what makes her stand out in a crowd. “Whatever I wear has to suit my figure perfectly. I not only understand fashion but I know what works best on me.” Not a slave to trends, this suave dresser favours classic ensembles but adds a dash of flamboyance to keep it interesting. Kate Moss, she says, is an icon with a truly eclectic look. Victoria Beckham and Gwyneth Paltrow are favourites too. Paris, London and Los Angeles are fashion haunts she frequents when she is abroad but when it comes to shopping here she heads to designer store Muse. “It’s the first of its kind in Mumbai as it houses a great mix of both, contemporary and mainstream designs. I especially like the way they have added a quirky touch to this heritage property,” she enthuses. While choosing garments, the way the outfit fits is key. She won’t buy an ensemble simply because it looks great on the hanger. Instead, she tries it on and ensures it accentuates her figure. Her favourite designers? “Sabyasachi, Falguni & Shane, Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and Marchesa.”

After a spot of shopping, the IVY Wine Bar at Worli is an ideal place to grab a quick bite. Besides being a showcase for her wines, she says the delicious food, great service and friendly atmosphere make this a perennial favourite. “This place is so special, although I like going to Indigo Deli and Frangipani as well. A perfect outfit would be a pretty summer dress or even jeans teamed with a vest – casual yet very chic,” she says.

Her job takes her out of town quite a bit, especially to her vineyards in Nashik but she manages to keep in shape by hitting the gym five times a week and practicing yoga to relieve stress. Today, with an evening out on the agenda, Kavita’s next stop is the Aquamarine Day Spa to get a dose of some heavy-duty pampering. “I throw on my tracks or shorts and end up here at least once a month to enjoy their Sea & Senses Hot Stone Body Massage and their Marine Prelude. This is by far the best way to relax and rewind,” she says.

Completely rejuvenated, Kavita is all set for her night out clubbing. And hot-spot Privé is the obvious choice. “I think Privé offers exemplary service. And of course, Mumbai’s elite party crowd can be found here. Black is my current staple for an evening out, but I also enjoy experimenting with other colours that suit my style. Feminine dresses are a weakness and I accessorise them with a trendy pendant or brooch. Sexy stilettos and a nice clutch complete the look. Chanel, Roberto Cavalli and Monique Lhuillier have some fabulous outfits.”
