After bagging one of the most prestigious campaigns in the country not too long after she shifted base from the U.K to Mumbai, Amrit Maghera, the new face of Lakmé, says that it’s her ability to not concentrate too much on comparing herself to others that makes her stand out among the dozens of pretty young things out there. “To be honest, while it’s good to be aware of what others in the field are doing, you should not get hung-up about it. Obviously, I definitely have a lot of self-belief but for me, it’s not about what I’ve got that other people haven’t – I just do my stuff and know that performing is what I want to do preferably for the rest of my life,” she says. And this 24-year-old rates her tour with rapper, Coolio and dancing for Kanye West as her best achievements after the Lakmé contract. Amrit believes that being open-minded to learning new things is key to be able to truly succeed. “That and patience – which is something I lack,” she grins. For her the hardest part was adjusting to life here, in a new country all alone. But the chaos and drama of this city soon helped her get over her homesickness and now she can’t wait to get some time off from her hectic schedules to travel to Punjab where one side of her family hails from. Not one to sit down and wait for things to happen, this former girl-band member has quite a few projects in the pipeline for the coming year. But she isn’t revealing anything yet. “Wait and watch. All I can say right now is that there is a lot that I want to do with my life, performance wise and I really hope to do this in India as I really like it here!”
