Singing suits the Cirque du Soleil singer to the ‘T’

She is not your average wannabe singer. Tara Baswani is fascinated by the endless possibilities of fusing vocal styles. Her stint with Delhi Mrigya, a motley fusion band, launched a musical odyssey that saw her amalgamating light jazz with funk and branching out to a Celtic meets Arabic influence. The band won at the prestigious Scotland Fringe Festival. A Delhi girl, Tara shifted to Mumbai in 2003. After singing songs for White Noise and Pehla Pehla Pyaar, prestigious theatrical extravaganza Cirque du Soleil came a calling. She got on board last October, premiered in April and is touring with their new show called Kooza in North America till end 2008. “The vocal roster of the Cirque stretches from operatic undertones to Celtic strains, a rock track, a tango, a Hindi track and neatly wraps up with classical crooner and R & B section with a sprinkling of Indian classical alaaps thrown in. It’s a stunning show and keeps me on my toes. You have to be physically and vocally very fit!” Tara is keen on singing for Bollywood and is also working on her music album. Her music mantra: “No matter what language or style you sing in, as long as it’s from heart and has your soul in it, it’s got to work.” Encore to that.
