Hard Kaur gets into the groove again

You remember her from her infectious Ek Glassy track which was a crowd puller on the dance floor at clubs more than a year ago. Now Taran Kaur Dhillon or ‘Hard Kaur’ as she is popularly known, is back with her new album, Supawoman. Taran who enjoys the distinction of being the first British Asian female rapper didn’t exactly have it easy when she started out. Besides trying to break into a male bastion, she also had to deal with bullying from fellow Indians. “I had no help and had to put up with racism. But I did it. When non-Asian people started treating me with respect, the Asian community followed, too” she says. With respect came success. Today she has her own label ‘Kaur Music’ as well as some Bollywood projects. But what is she happiest about? “Finally the rest of the world can see that Indian girls are not just born to cook, clean and be housewives or that we are only lawyers or doctors.”
