Namrita Bachchan paints a pretty picture

She may have the Bachchans as relatives, but the reticent Namrita Bachchan prefers to let her paintings and poems do the impressing. “It certainly puts unnatural pressure because you have to face success and failure in the public eye. Then again it also pushes you to give that extra edge,” reasons the alumnus of New York’s Parsons School of Design. Her first solo show, Give me Space, at the Museum Gallery in Mumbai three years ago, made quite an impact with its poster-like imagery, quirky touches and bold colours. Last November, the 30-year-old granddaughter of Harivanshrai Bachchan launched her independently-published illustrated book of poems, Deliverance. Mythical and decorative, her vibrant illustrations in ink and paint were a riot of colour, textures and geometric patterns. The collection – observations by the young poet-artist – is being exhibited at the Indar Pasricha Fine Arts Gallery in London from November 7-17.
