Koel Purie’s passion for cinema knows no bounds

She has news baron Aroon Purie as dad, worked as a travel reporter in her first job, read news for Doordarshan and anchored a current affairs show. So Koel Purie didn’t really have to do much homework for her role as a journalist in Breaking News. But it took her a while to realise that acting was her true calling. “I was a typical confused, rebellious teenager. I was so intellectually snobbish that it took me a long time to admit to myself this is what I wanted to do.” With a repertoire of roles that include an alcoholic scriptwriter, an abused teen and a forensic expert, Koel has rarely found herself saying yes to playing a less-than-challenging character.” In the pipeline are Amal, a Canadian film, Secrets of the Seven Sounds, an American animation movie and Great Indian Butterfly, directed by Sarthak Dasgupta. A role she’d love to play? Cleopatra. “She’s the ultimate femme fatale!”
