Rain or shine, these expert make-up tips will keep you looking flawless, assures Faye Remedios

Getting drenched and splashing around in the rain might be fun but it can spell disaster for your skin and make-up. With a little care, it’s easy to avoid runny make-up or blotchy skin. We get experts to reveal their monsoon-proofing secrets.

Skin deep
“Use a cleanser with a moisturiser as skin tends to get easily dehydrated during the monsoon. Even if you have oily skin, a moisturising cleanser provides the required water content,” advises Unaid Ansari, make-up artist, Givenchy. The Body Shop recommends the Bluecorn or the Blackcurrant face masks to revive and purify the skin.

Fortune’s face
Use a lightly textured foundation like the Subli’Mine range from Givenchy that feels natural on the skin and is ideal for this weather. Make-up expert Clint Fernandes suggests using the Pro Lumière foundation from Chanel. “As far as possible, try to avoid foundation altogether as it melts and turns patchy. Alternatively try the range of pressed powders from M.A.C, Shiseido and Bobbi Brown all of which have shades that suit Indian skin tones,” says make-up artist Priya Todarwal.

Lip smart
Lipsticks work better than glosses for this weather. “But you can use a shimmery eyeshadow on the lips followed by a light gloss for a fresh look,” says Ansari. Fair skins can try a plumy red or glossy pink, wheatish skins do well with pretty corals while dusky complexions should go in for plums and browns. Fernandes recommends the semi-permanent lip colour range from Bourjois. “Carnation or Rose from Bobbi Brown are great shades for fair skins while Prudeaux from the Slimshine range by M.A.C is a dark burgundy for wheatish skins and Urgent! from M.A.C is perfect for dark skins,” Todarwal suggests.
