Young, funky and effervescent, they epitomise the spirit of Generation Next. With their unique mix of designer and street fashion, these veejays delight in being different.
Verve catches the four youth icons posing in their favourite threads
Jeans and a vest are her staple outfits, especially the current rage, skinny jeans, which she says she can wear all the time. Formal occasions find her in high-waisted pants or baby doll dresses with stilettos. She hates make-up and relies on a touch of blush and mascara to keep her looking fresh. In fact, Anusha says, she is quite low-key when it comes to decking up. "I stand in front of my cupboard and waste so much time deciding what to wear that by the time I am done with my outfit and make-up, I don't have time to accessorise, so I end up throwing on whatever is at hand so long as it goes with my outfit," she says. Pointed stilettos are an indulgence. Despite stocking up on bags and shoes, she says she can't find the right handbag for her outfits. Not a designer person, anything goes as long as it looks good on her. She enjoys picking up stuff from Miss Sixty, Top Shop and Guess? Rohit Gandhi, Rahul Khanna and Malini Ramani are among her favourite Indian designers.
Barring the rare belt, Nauheed is not too fond of accessories and jewellery and insists denim is her wardrobe staple. "At any time of the day or night, you will find me in denim - mostly jeans or a skirt or shorts." Guess? is her favourite brand with Mango and Abercrombie & Fitch coming a close second. Malaysia is her fashion haunt. Her formal attire would make heads turn. "If I have to attend a function where everyone is in saris, I would probably end up in a glitzy, sequinned dress. On the rare occasions, I do end up wearing a dress, I wet my hair and scrape it back to make it look like I oiled it. I love adding this bit of weirdness to my look." While bright hues like fuchsia, aqua and green dominate her wardrobe, Nauheed would prefer to live only in white. "For me it's not about what's in style but what makes me comfortable." Juhi Pande Though a self-confessed 'shoe person' and a nonconformist, Juhi says she is a lazy shopper and relies on her mother to pick out her clothes. From boots to sneakers, heels and her favourite rubber chappals, she has more than 50 pairs of footwear in her wardrobe. "For formal events and evenings, I prefer knee-length dresses and glam heels, with a bit of silver jewellery. My look is usually simple and not intricate. A large pendant, disc shaped earrings and lots of rings are what I usually wear." Though not too much of a designer person, she is a diehard Manish Arora fan. Archana Vijaya Clearly partial to dresses, Archana is mostly in cotton or lycra minis or dresses that are cut low in the front or the back to add an element of sexiness. Corsets, trousers and shirts complete her wardrobe. She loves splurging on shoes and bags. "I wear pumps, stilettos, wedges and ballet shoes but nothing beats chappals when it comes to just chilling out," she smiles. Jewel tones like green and burgundy set off her tanned skin beautifully while gold and brown are the most popular shades in her wardrobe. Archana likes to mix 'n' match designer clothes with street fashion to get the perfect feminine look. "I think Malini Ramani has very sexy dresses. I also like Gaurav Gupta and Monisha Jaising. Among international designers, I love Roberto Cavalli because his outfits are understated yet bold."
