Imagine the quintessential you - your personality, aura, inimitable philosophy, distilled into your very own fragrance that once sprayed or dabbed on, will wrap you in a mystique so unique that no one else can have it, muses Geeta Rao
So here it is: your chance to find your sensory soulmate in the season of romance. Evocative, provocative, exotic - what will your fragrance be? A true fragrance rests on a mood, an emotion, philosophy, a bit of poetry or romantic longing. Once you decide it, then the master perfumer or fragrance director will recreate it in a series of fine tuned notes. Le heure bleu, the blue hour, is a Guerlain perfume inspired by the moment of the day when the perfumer found that 'the sky had lost its sun but had not yet found the stars'. Will your scent conjure up images of place and time, the romance of travel and hidden secrets with vanilla, jasmine, Casablanca lilies, coffee ylang ylang, coconut, kadamba flowers or will it hint at sexiness and sensuality with a dash of musk (synthetic only to protect animal rights), bergamot, vetiver (Khus), white lotus or then will it show up your energy with a dash of citrus, orange, melon, apple and spices like cinnamon and cloves? Will it express your philosophic longings? A fragrance I saw online had 'baked earth from the Ganges' as one of its notes. And then, of course, choosing the name that will say it all. Will it be your own? Or will it be the mood or memory that you want to appropriate? Think names like White Linen, Addict, One, Truth. Guerlain Paris offers a two hour basic consultation with a master perfumer who will try to understand your personality and then create a series of smells that you can pick and choose from until you find the one that is uniquely you. It's a beautiful and romantic gift but it will set you back about 30,000 pounds -I won't convert that into rupees but then remember, you are a universe of one and therefore priceless. |
