Accessorise! Accessorise! Accessorise! For their patrons to adorn themselves with fine jewellery or sport a stylish watch, was rewarding for Cartier. But a need was also felt for lending the brand name to objets d'art that would add finishing touches to boudoirs, boardrooms and lapels alike. Ever since the 1930s, Cartier has been creating accessories, albeit in small doses, for its diverse clientele. The extravagance of that decade's Café Society was immortalised by a platinum Cartier cigarette case, with the engraved name of the patron. Some years later 'Parfum Cartier' was launched. What started, as designer perfume holders to contain exotic eastern fragrances, morphed into a thriving enterprise, where perfume-objects were created. It was only in 1981 however, that the first perfume 'Must de Cartier' was launched...as a jewellery object. And who could forget the luxury ridged cigarette lighter of the swinging '60s, which became the ideal chic gift, on everyone's must-have list!
