Verve and Vertu
Published: Volume 14, Issue 3, November, 2006

Arguably the 'finest handset ever made' teamed with the 'finest people in the finest magazine' at a made-to-order evening that rang with the tinkle of celebration and much joie de vivre at the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower's rooftop Souk. Verve, media partner for the exclusive global launch of the very high-end cell phone, joined Vertu president, Alberto Torres in unveiling the Vertu Signature Diamond Collection. Keeping to the theme of glitz and glamour, was Verve editor and publisher Anuradha Mahindra, accompanied by personal invitees, Nita Ambani and Juhi Chawla. The radiant Nita looked elegant as ever, with her particular, classic brand of dressing while Juhi was her inimitable, vivacious self, her star quality intact.

While the complex handset - that took seasoned craftsmen three years to learn to assemble - aroused the curiosity of the jet set present, compere Divya Palat took the guests through the history of Vertu, as models paraded the coveted collection, which has been inspired by the tradition of Grand Complication timepieces, each including 388 mechanical components. And complementing these New Age accessories, was the glitter of Popley's La Classique collection, Rhea.

According to chief designer, Frank Nuovo, "the luxury phone is all about celebrating mobility and the freedom that comes with it. It is a tribute to travel."

A Verve poster as a backdrop, Verve in the goody bag and Vertu as the new aspirational jewel. Such is the stuff that feel-good evenings are made of.
