The elements of the yin yang
Prriya
Awasthy showcased her latest collection at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion
wek'06(Aug) christened BLACK VIRGIN (The elements of the yin yang).
The inspiration is derived from the concept of YIN and YANG which instates
the theory that describes 2 primal opposing but complimentary forces
are found in all things in the universe. To elaborate further YIN
the darker element is passive, dark, feminine, and downward-seeking
which primarily corresponds to the night. On the other hand YANG, the
brighter element is active, light, masculine, and upward-seeking and
corresponds to the day. Also the symbolic representation for YIN is
Water and for YANG is Fire. In short YIN and YANG are descriptions of
complementary opposites rather than absolutes which also extends to
the Theory of Relativity that without one the other cannot exist. For
e.g. if there was no dark what do you compare light with. If there was
no good what do you compare bad with? So for words synonymous with YIN
- moon, night, dark, cool, feminine, earth introversion etc and YANG
- sun, day, light, warm, masculine, heaven, extroversion.
The collection embodies everything that the YIN YANG symbolizes.
Where our YIN and YANG combine completely there is complete harmony
i.e. the horizon, perfect relationships, the human body and much more.
The belief which has helped Priya draw key inspiration is that according
to her every woman has two parts the soft and the hard. The hardness
takes her through the hardships she faces in life like the traumas,
the harsh realities, childbirth etc. The softness, the other element
in the woman is what makes her a good mother, good wife, the home maker,
the secret behind a successful man. It's what makes a man want to pamper
her look after her, protect her, cherish her etc. Priya has tried
to combine two elements in this collection. Embellishments have mainly
been used to soften the severe lines and the hardness has been brought
out by the use of other various elements as well.
After casting her magic recently at Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week
2006 with Mandira Bedi walking the ramp for her she created
that oomph all over again. With something completely inspiring in the
upcoming fashion week the models scorched the ramp in a Prriya Awasthy
label all over again!
About
Prriya Awasthy
Some people extend their passion and make it a profession and that's
when you completely enjoy every moment at work. Such is the case
with Prriya Awasthy whose clothes exuberate a great deal of spirit and
energy with the colours and embellishments she feel free to indulge
in. She brings out a flamboyant perspective to colour and contour.
Prriya's forte is colour and anything colourful fascinates her.
Her creative impulses could be triggered by just about anything it could
be a flower, painting or any place she visited as well. Embellishments
are key to her creations and she uses anything from beads, crystals,
swarovski, trimmings, laces, sequins to various types of embroidery,
Zari work, crotchet work, antique work with Zardozi, badla work, chikankari,
hand painting and of course Kantha. For her the overall look, technique,
style, fabric, and finish are extremely crucial as well hence maintaining
brand quality is at utmost priority.
Prriya's couture is an extension of the same philosophy and hence
extremely wearable. It is trendy but not bizarre and complements
the female form completely. With a belief in high end fusion she aims
at her garments being graceful and elegant which oozes femininity and
sensuality. Prriya aspires to make Indian fashion more popular and
affordable and she is having fun unlimited on the fashion track.
Her garments have a price point of a pręt, but the look of a diffusion
garment. She believes in having fussy cuts and heavily ornated look
even for her casual kurtis, so buyers find value for money even for
her clothes which look like diffusion line but are priced at pręt level.
With no formal training in designing, but loads of passion and designing
skills, Prriya Awasthy began her career way back in 1990 in Calcutta
and today the Prriya Awasthy label is available in India and other parts
of the world as well. She has coloured fashion aspirations of countless
from India to UK, US, South Africa, Dubai, Kuwait, Muscat, Saudi Arabia,
Riyaad, Bahrain, Singapore, Canada, Hong Kong. In India her label
is available at Kimaya, Samsara in Delhi, Elahe and Oorja in Ahmedabad
and Kali in Calcutta… Prriya managed to strike a balance between the
opulent (for the Indian market) and the minimalist look (for the international
market) which is why her label has been very well received internationally
as well. Her popularity also extends to the bollywood glitterati
like Ameesha Patel, Raveena Tandon, Pooja Bedi and Tara Sharma, Rakshanda
Khan and many more.
