Vijay Mallya jumps on board....

This was the mother of all press conferences, thrown by liquor baron and WLIFW co-sponsor, Vijay Mallya, to establish his joining the fashion bandwagon. But then Mallya has always claimed that his products denote a lifestyle that blends with fashion and glamour. And, of course, given his own high flying image, a press conference on a yacht does not seem so far-fetched, after all.

And so, Delhi's designers took a day out and a day off from their hysterical pre fashion week schedules, flying down to Mumbai's seafront for the event. Members of the press, dressed in their cruise wear (why not!) were shipped out in a large motorised 'dingy' and the excitement was palpable. As the beer flowed and the wait went on for the big man himself, it was difficult to distinguish the rolling of the ship from the light-headedness of afternoon sun. And he arrived, with Mumbai designer, Monisha Jaising co-incidentally in tow, being the last to climb aboard. Well, we had our own Mumbai designer, making the grand entry, then, what!

Overheard: "Don't you just love Pria Kataria Puri's outfit...it is so 'country girl on a yacht'. (A far cry indeed from the Egyptian influences that were to dominate her show.)
