Thanks to its Fashion Weeks, New Delhi rocks with a slew of haute parties. In a humorous vein, Suhel Seth checks out the crowd, the cuisine andthe coolers at the stylish shebangs

This year, there was rampant confusion. People didn't know which Fashion Week they should be seen at - Anil Chopra's Fashion Week in Mumbai which had Ravi Krishnan and the Fashion writer, Bandana Tewari, or the FDCI Fashion Week in New Delhi which was run by the effusive Rathi Vinay Jha and had supporters in the form of Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani. In my mind, this was more a battle for the cities and not just for the mindsets. Or for that matter ogling eyeballs!

But then, Delhi is India's fashion capital whether you like it or not, even though the beautiful people may well live in Mumbai. Delhi has always wrested and worn this title, simply because the capital has many more weddings than Mumbai and what are our fashion designers, if not trousseau designers! I still believe that Delhi's Fashion Weeks will always be far more stimulating and interesting only because the metropolis has some charming venues to host the parties. For those of you who think Delhi loves fashion, think again.

THE PIGGYBACK PARTIES
Delhi doesn't understand fashion; it only appreciates what emanates from it. Thanks to the Fashion Weeks, there will be the usual slew of parties thrown by people you would never invite home, leave alone see besides a catwalk. They will have the familiar set of wannabe models and the regular quota of aspiring fashion designers which will include the host's brattish daughter and his ageing sister-in-law - all of whom will give you a cursory once-over to see whose clothes you are wearing. Then there will be the burping caterer who will, between gawking at the leggy models, try and serve you leg of chicken and so on. This is what I would term as the piggyback party. For, of and by the pigs of Delhi who relish fashion once a year. These are parties that are extremely popular with the fashion fraternity in Delhi, for yet again people get free booze and free food and all they have to do is to look busy and bored: something they do with ease. Then there are the swipes that are taken at each other which make M S Dhoni's batting look like kindergarten stuff. If you think men are bitchy, then listen to fashion designers: they don't have anything nice to say even about Mother Teresa, leave alone Ritu Beri!
