The
Army (Green) polo team went down to Army (Red) 13-9 in the thrilling
finale of the 16-goal Jaeger-LeCoultre Maharaj Sir Pratap Singh Cup.
Celebrities, visitors from abroad, and enthusiastic polo fans provided
a lively ambience to the on-field excitement of the Sir Pratap Singh
Cup, sponsored this year by Jaeger-LeCoultre, premium Swiss watch maker.
In the Reverso Polo Trophy played, prior to the finals, Reverso Eclipse
defeated Reverso Squadra, featuring Lady Clare Milford Haven, Marchioness
of Milford Haven, who is also the Polo Ambassador of Jaeger-LeCoultre,
4-2, to win the 'Reverso Polo Trophy'. Clare is the Social Editor of
Tatler, a leading British magazine, and is one of a growing number of
female players in this glamorous and exciting sport.
On the occasion, Jaeger LeCoultre also introduced the Reverso Squadra
watch. The Reverso Squadra features sophisticated design embellishments,
brand-new technical features and, above all, a new shape, the Squadra
is a Reverso with a square case. The watch was conceived with men in
mind, its exceptionally powerful design combines strength, elegance,
sturdiness and - last but by no means least - the absolute reliability
that characterises all Jaeger-LeCoultre timepieces. The watch was unveiled
with a lot of fanfare during the tournament….with the beating of the
drums of the Army band and a royal procession of beautifully bedecked
elephants.
Halfway
through the final match guests were invited by emcee Shefali Talwar
for the tread-in. A number of celebrities, who were assiduously cheering
on the two finalists, were spotted at the tournament. Among them were
General J.J. Singh, the chief guest for the event, H.H Maharaja Gaj
Singh of Jodhpur with daughter Princess Shivranjani Raje of Jodhpur,
Chetan Seth with daughter Ameeta Seth, Jerome Lambert, CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre,
Suhel Seth, Princess Yashodra Raje Scindia, Ramneek Paintal & Rajat
Singh, Pakistan High Commissioner, Mr. Gurinder Sahni, Managing Director
Jot Impex, H.H. Lt. Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, Adhiraj Singh, organiser of
the tournament and Managing Director of Equisport, Nafisa Ali, Sonu
& Atul Wasan, designers Gauri and Nainaka Karan, Industrialist Sanjeev
Bali, designer Sanjana Jon among others.
General J.J. Singh, Mr. Jerome Lambert, CEO, Jaeger-LeCoultre and H.H.
Maharaj Gaj Singh of Jodhpur presented the trophies to the teams during
the post-match ceremonies. Guests were invited to sample the sumptuous
high-tea, catered by The Imperial, New Delhi after the games.
Jaeger-LeCoultre chose this tournament for the worldwide celebration
of the 75th anniversary of its No. 1 timepiece - the 'Reverso'. For
this, they brought over 100 journalists from all over the world to make
the celebration a memorable one. The 'Reverso' brand has a very special
relationship with India and especially the Indian Cavalry. It was the
polo playing Cavalry Officers who suggested the design for the 'Reverso'
in the year 1931. This design has become one of the world's most unique
and respected watch brands.
