Bvlgari Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup 2006

Bvlgari, the contemporary luxury brand announced its association with the Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup as the Title Sponsor for the 2006 tournament. The tournament began on February 14, 2006 and culminated with the Grand Finale on February 19, 2006 at the Jaipur Polo Ground, New Delhi. The Hospitality Partner for the Tournament was Olive Bar & Kitchen.
Teams from around the country and some of the sport's top professional players, both Indian and foreign competed in the prestigious Polo Tournament, including Jindal Power & Steel, Royal Kashmir, Cavalry A, Army, and Indian Navy and polo players Basheer Ali, H.H Lt Tunku Ismail Ibrahim, Manupal Godara, Angad Kalaan, Samir Suhag, Simran Shergill, Navin Jindal among others.

In one of the most exciting games of the season, Royal Kashmir defeated Cavalry (6-5) to claim the Bvlgari Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia Gold Cup 2006. Played at the Jaipur Polo Grounds, Delhi, in what could have been any team's game till the very last moment the match was strongly contested by both sides and provided spectators with many thrilling moments. The winning side's Manupal Godara, who made three goals, was adjudged the Most Valuable Player, while HH Tunku Ismail Ibrahim's pony Campeona, got the best polo pony award.. Cavalry's Santiago Estrada was the highest goaler for the day with all 5 goals for his team to his credit.

Enthusiastic polo aficionados, including several celebrity spectators, and a large appreciative crowd provided an animated backdrop to the on-field excitement. Spotted among the celebrity spectators were Feroze Gujral, Nafisa Ali, actress Karishma Kapur with husband Sunjay Kapur, designers Rina Dhaka, J.J. Valaya, Gauri and Nainaka Karan, model Poonam Nath, yoga trainer Nisha Singh, Uday Khemkha, Vikramaditya & Chitrangada of Kashmir, Sujata Dhamija of Bvlgari Parfums, Sunjay and Sonali Punj, Ramneek Paintal & Rajat Singh, Adhiraj Singh, organiser of the tournament and Managing Director of Equisport, restaurateur A.D Singh among others.
Shri. Praful Patel, Honble Unioin Minsiter of Civil Aviation, Princess Yashodhara Raje Scindia and Mr. Giovanni Facchinetti, Asia Pacific Sales Director for Bvlgari Perfume presented the trophies to the teams during the post-match ceremonies.
The tournament began with an exhibition match for The Italian Ambassador's Polo Trophy. Benetton surpassed Bvlgari (3-2) to win the gleaming prize.
Much to the delight of the large appreciative crowd, who had assiduously cheered on the two teams, there was a diverting trick riding display, before the post match ceremonies, to add to the off-field festivities. After the post-match ceremonies, guests were invited for the delicious high-tea, catered by Olive Bar and Kitchen.

Patronised by the Royal family of Gwalior, the Scindias, this trophy was presented to the Polo Club by the Late H.H. Rajmata Vijaya Raje Scindia of Gwalior in honour of her husband Late H.H. Maharaja Jiwaji Rao Scindia's memory in February 1997. An excellent polo player, Maharaja Jiwaji was also a great promoter of this royal sport during his time. The presentation of the trophy was made to the Polo Club by the three princesses of the Royal House of Gwalior: Usha Raje Rana of Nepal, Vasundhara Raje of Dholpur, Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Yashodhara Raje Scindia, Cabinet Minister in Madhya Pradesh at a glittering function at the Jaipur Polo Ground in New Delhi on 23rd February, 1997.
This trophy in his name is now played during the Delhi Polo Season in February each year as a weeklong tournament. This premier tournament of Indian Polo is one of the most coveted and strongly contested national polo tournaments in India, attracting India's top players as well as professional players from all over the world.

Highlights of Royal Kashmir Vs Cavalry match
The ball was thrown in by the Hon'ble Union Minister for Civil Aviation Praful Patel for the opening chukkar. Cavalry opened score with a successfully converted 40 yard undefended penalty shot taken by Santiago Estrada. With a minute of play left in the first chukkar, Manupal Godara, with a beautiful under the neck shot, was able to make the first goal for Royal Kashmir. However, yet another goal by Estrada, made in the final seconds of the chukkar, put Cavalry, in the lead at 2-1. In a hard second fought chukkar, Manupal Godara made the equalizer with a lovely goal taking the score to two goals a piece. Not to be outdone, Cavalry quickly reclaimed the lead with a yet another goal by Estrada. An undefended 30-yard penalty shot in favour of Royal Kashmir, taken by Angad Kalan, leveled the score at 3 goals a piece. However, brilliant lofted shot, taken by Santiago Estrada in lieu of a 60 yard penalty shot saw Cavalry notch another goal. A spot hit awarded to Royal Kashmir was again successfully converted by Angad Kalan. In the final moments of the chukkar an expert shot by Santiago Estrada saw Cavalry assume the lead once again. The chukkar ended 5-4. A superb goal made by Manupal Godara in the final minute of the third chukkar saw Royal Kashmir finally level the score in this chukkar to 5 goals a piece. In the final chukkar of this exciting final game of the tournament, with barely a minute to go, Abhimanyu Pathak put in a goal for Royal Kashmir which led them to victory. The game ended 6-5 in favour of Royal Kashmir.
