One of the most popular faces in prime time soaps, Gurpreet Singh has made the most of the coveted roles that have fallen straight into his lap

Remember the VIP print ad, where a dude in glares sits on a sofa clad only in his red undies? "Thank god, everyone only remembers the red underwear…not who was wearing them," laughs Gurpreet Singh aka Tushar aka Sujal of Kahiin to Hoga. Starting with Atlas Cycles, this Delhi dude was happy modelling, till the film bug bit him and he landed in Mumbai. He's two films old - Madhubala and Bhay - both slated for release this year, even as the viewers continue to swoon over his edition of Tushar who only recently regained his memory (not face) to become Sujal again.
He's certainly born under a lucky star. "I've never had to struggle," he admits. Whether it was advertisements or films, they just fell into his lap. "In Mumbai, one day, I was looking for a courier, when this coordinator spotted me and I was in business."
Serials were the last thing on his mind, even when he landed the coveted role of Sujal. "I used to think - what are serials compared with films," he chuckles, admitting to checking with family and friends about this "Sujal character".
"They assured me that he was very big, very popular and that I was very lucky…." It was only when he saw his face splashed across the front page of an afternoon newspaper as 'the new Sujal' that reality sunk in.
He's happy with his serial and settled with Kanishka, his co-star from Madhubala. Though he's looking forward to his films, there's no turning back from television and Sujal.
