GOTHIC CHIC from CHRISTIAN DIOR
Published: Volume 14, Issue 2, March-April, 2006

Wool and organza. Chiffon and leather. Layers and straight cuts. Bling glares and broad belts... Paparazzi, fashionistas and milling journalists made the Dior Fall-Winter 2006 prêt-à-porter show a brilliant, show-stopping event

Ah Paris, in the midst of freezing temperatures and the sizzling Fall-Winter Fashion Week. From the very Parisian and uber chic Hotel Plaza Athénée, the walk down to the Grand Palais where John Galliano promised to entertain, seemed the right thing to do - even though the wind grazed, the designer beckoned. And it was well worth it. For though Galliano went dark and philosophical at Milan, here he added all the colours and all the pizzazz. Celebrities, togged in their favourite Dior, manicured fingers, curled around champagne flutes, watched the lights go va-va-voom as nubile girls in high heels flaunted the newest genius of Galliano. And even though he only but made a brief appearance - not even half way down the runway, the night belonged to him.
