SCORCHING SEPARATES: SUMMER'S MIXED BAG
Published: Volume 14, Issue 2, March-April, 2006

An interesting assortment of the latest must-haves will have you breezing through the heat waves of coming months…and with a variety of cuts and silhouettes to choose from, a stick-thin figure no longer remains a prerequisite.

Styling Mantras:

  • Culottes, long shorts, mini-shorts, roll-up capris - one is spoilt for choice with bottoms this summer and it's not only the ubiquitous skirt that works this time around. Team with sassy racer backs or knotted voluminous colourful mul shirts.
  • Kaftans, shirtdresses and wrap dresses make for great alternatives to beach and boardroom dressing respectively. Allow a shimmering bikini top to provide a metallic peepshow with the latter when you need to rush straight through to a snazzy do.
  • Quick pointers - chocolate brown trumps black and navy for the night; jackets still do the trick but they are shorter and more youthful and naturally, opt for linens or hardy cottons; if you must buy boots for your Australian getaway, select a pristine white or something with baby ruffles.
  • You cannot own too many shrugs, if you're stocked up with the basic versions, go shopping for short puff-sleeved ones, cream net ones with crochet motifs and sequinned tie-ups for the night.

Go for it: Suchitra Pillai, Amrita Arora, Gauri Khan.
Collections: Malini Ramani, Namrata Joshipura, Louis Vuitton, Chloé.
