VERVE HITS THE HEADLINES

New York based couturier Gazala's debut showing in India at the Taj Mahal Hotel and the accompanying art fundraiser for the benefit of HIV affected children was a well attended affair. This Saturday night do saw society divas turn up in full form. Given that the place was packed with little place to stand, thank God not all the 100 artists who painted for the event were present! Juhi Chawla came in with husband Jai Mehta, did the art walk and left before the fashion show. Trust Milind Soman to look his casual best at the formal event and get away with it. Almost unrecognisable all suited-booted and 'tied' was adman Kailash Surendranath who came in with wife Arti. Abhishek Bachhchan looked visibly impressed with Dipannita Sharma who walked the ramp looking gorgeous, while Sushmita Sen stole hearts as the Verve showstopper, Gazala herself was too overwhelmed to speak on the dias and was close to tears.

Overheard
Jamal Mecklai telling his wife Pravina as soon as he entered the venue, "I need to slip to the bar and get something to drink first."
