Come October 1 and Mumbai's crème da la creme will get ready for a dazzling event dedicated to art and fashion. 100 artists from the country will display specially painted works at The Taj and Bollywood diva Sushmita will walk the ramp for New York based designer Gazala, who will make her debut in India.
The good thing is that 'Verve' magazine which has put together the grand event has ensured that the art and fashion evening to take place at the Crystal Ballroom room at Hotel Taj, will benefit HIV affected children.
Sushmita will be sashaying down the catwalk in a show stopper outfit created specially for the magazine. Eight leading models will also do the catwalk at the glittering event on October 1. The funds generated through corporates and other sponsors will directly go into the hands of Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT), which works closely with HIV and AIDS afflicted children. MF Husain, Anjolie Ela Menon, Jehangir Jani, Jehangir Sabavala and Jitish Kallat among others have decided to lend an helping hand to the event.
Says Nupur Mahjan Sinh, brand development director of 'Verve', "Each artist has agreed to donate up to 40 to 60 per cent of the sale proceeds to the CCDT."
Fashion designer Gazala returns to the country and city of her birth after many, many years. She had moved to New York after marriage to her husband Zakir Chinwalla.
Gazala has been a successful model and was at one point of time the face of Bombay Dyeing. She started her fashion career with the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Olega Cassini.
