Sujata Assomull turns away from the smudged smoky look this season and recommends, instead, healthy glowing cheeks and splash proof make-up for that feeling of instant freshness

RAINPROOF SHIMMER

Staying radiant in the monsoon is a simple matter of getting your look right

The monsoon season is one of the most beautiful and special parts of the year, but it can also be hard on the skin. With all the time spent indoors, make room in your schedule to look after yourself. Extra care is needed during this season, as skin tends to become oily and sticky. However, the increase in humidity can also have a drying effect – so you need to check your skin daily and treat it according to how it feels.

Stay Fresh

To avoid that sticky feeling, cleanse and tone at least twice a day. Shiseido’s refreshing Cleansing Sheets and Cleansing Water are two products you may want to keep handy. They are easy to use and give you a feeling of instant coolness. If you need something a little heavier, take a look at M.A.C’s skincare range. (This professional line of make-up and skincare products will soon be available in India.) Vimi Joshi, M.A.C Senior Artist, Middle East and India, recommends the Green Gel Cleanser. This foaming cleanser removes all make-up and dirt while controlling oil, which works well on greasy complexions. Complement this refreshed feeling by drinking lots of green tea – it’s full of antioxidants and detoxifies, keeping skin looking fresh.

After cleansing and toning, use a water-based moisturiser to induce a fresh glow. Try one from L’Oréal, Garnier or Clarins. Remember: the monsoon is no excuse to forget sun protection. The sun is still fairly bright in this season, so check that you are using a moisturiser with UV protection.

Be Colourful

Make-up in the monsoon should be light, yet playful and colourful. The catch phrase for the season: less is more. Focusing on one or two features is enough to bring out a woman’s beauty, so either play up the eyes or the lips. Start with a light base – M.A.C Studio Fix foundation is ideal and simple to apply. It is slightly creamy but then sets to a powder form that does not run.
