Forecast 2005 Fall/Autumn
Published: Volume 13, Issue 4, July-August, 2005

Fall brings with it a bounty of fashion firsts in aromatic hues of rose, violet, apple and chocolate – feisty leggings for chic calves, lustrous pearls reminiscent of English regality, voluminous drapes to enhance and enchant and dressy hair to effectively top it all

THE EYE-CATCHER: SNAZZY HAIR

Have fun with your tresses – design your mane with the latest clamps and barrettes to complement your look with a perfect hairdo and accessorise further with the trendiest of bags and shoes.

HOW TO

From jewelled hair combs to Swarovski ponytail holders, hair ornamentation is big on the fashion circuit. Part your hair into a middle or side parting, depending on the look you want to achieve. Opt for the former for a naturally beautiful gypsy feel. Ultra modern flair calls for the latter. Either way, do not forget to clamp on multiple rhinestone hair clips to draw attention to your lustrous locks.

Soft, sultry kiss curls are de rigueur for the moment. Turn up for a sparkling evening in a slithery chiffon sari with fresh daisies tucked into your ’40s style twirled chignon. Or, braid and curl front sections of your hair. Keep in place with a stone studded headband, slip into a Lycra tee and ornate ghaghra and magically westernise a typically Indian ensemble. French combs have a timeless appeal. Put your hair up in a French twist and tuck in a fancy hair fork or an exquisite vintage crystal stick. Chandelier earrings are a must with this coiffure. Also add on attitude and colour in the form of hair extensions or pretty bows in tangerine or yellow.

THE REGAL RIOT: PRECIOUS PEARLS

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend but pearls may prove to be her bosom buddies, this season. Delve into granny’s jewellery box and resurrect these exquisite gems as they metamorphose into fashion’s latest expression for grown-up chic and elegant glamour.

HOW TO

Adorn your neck with multiple strands of freshwater pearls. Let them dangle in varying lengths – the longest could reach your waist. Mix black and white strings interspersed with hanging metal charms and fun, spray-painted, miniature tassels. (For a glitzy Monroesque look, add an antique diamond collar). Wear with a deep neck, button-down jacket in a soft paisley print with light fur edging along the collar and fitted denims. Those who aim

for rock chic glam should think leather with pearls. A low-
slung, white, cutwork belt can be embellished with strings of pearls in dewy shades – rose pink, mint green, pale lilac or aquamarine, loosely encircling the hips. Stir up your very own concocted accessory by affixing pearl straps to an oversized sports watch dial. A silvery strapless satin evening gown can look exceptional when highlighted with intermixed pearls of different sizes – string together a variation onto a skinny suede band and use as a bracelet or choker. Or, dangle a single enormous pearl as a pendant with a soft coloured silk cord. The impact is no less stunning than that of a solitaire.
