My favourite colour changes quickly, as does fashion.

Donatella Versace, head of the Versace fashion empire, takes a breather in Mumbai, throws city fashionistas into a tizzy and promises to return, states Sujata Assomull

A Verve Exclusive

Donatella Versace’s whirlwind trip to India had to be one of the highlights of any fashionista’s calendar, so far this year. Her three-day sojourn, may have been quick but Donatella sampled enough of India to know she definitely wants to come back and spend some more time here. She managed to both, shop and party, till she dropped, during her short visit. Throwing a do for Italy’s ultimate fashion diva was India’s ultimate hostess, Parmeshwar Godrej. At the party, Donatella wore a plunging black gown that showed her svelte figure and charmed all of Mumbai’s high society priestesses by being everything one did not expect her to be. She kept to herself, though was happy to be introduced to new people and was friendly to chat to, coming across as a little introverted, yet confident. This designer is obviously sure about India as she plans to open five stores across the country in the next year. "I knew Indian women were very elegant but I really liked the individual style that all the women had. Even if they wore a sari, they made their sari have its own personality by the way they draped it. I did not see one badly dressed person. Everything was well done from dress, to make-up and hair," observed the fashion queen, at the party.
