Award-winning, London-based author, Hari Kunzru, on his taut, darkly funny novel, Transmission

What inspired you to write Transmission?

I wanted to write a global novel that was physically set in different places, where the characters were disconnected, yet had a sense of blending in with each other. I travel a lot and one learns about different cultures easily. It’s about how we all come from different parts of the world and yet have some universal similarities – such as the Internet – and how it dominates our lives.

How does it feel to be part of the new young group of ethnic British writers?

It has changed my life. I am able to voice my views on issues such as race, ethnicity, immigration, religion and freedom of expression. I hope that I am able to make an impact and help others.
