The Indian Touch
Published: Volume 13, Issue 3, May-June, 2005

India lovers and France-based Indians have cause to rejoice. Come June-July and events, showcasing a window of the multi-hued colours of India, are part of the popular La Nuit de Fourviere in Lyon. An ongoing series of events from June 14 to August 6, 2005, the extravaganza is bound to be a treat to one’s sensibilities with 35 global acts and artistes on show.

A unique event providing multiple treats to classical music lovers has sitar maestro, Ravi Shankar – an inestimable influence in the world of music – performing with daughter, Anoushka Shankar and tabla artiste, Tanmoy Bose. It will surely be a time to let their mellifluous notes work their own magic.

Bollywood – globally talked about as Mumbai’s counterpart of Hollywood – will once more take centre stage. With fanfare in true Indian style, the offerings promise to recreate its romance (so close to French hearts, as well) and Technicoloured spirit. The fare – with Pascal of Bollywood, Olli and the Bollywood Orchestra, the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band and singers, Smriti Minoucha and Mou Mukherjee, transcends borders, literally.
