Fashion has been the key word this summer with one more designer store opening in April. Araiya, the brand launched by designer sisters Arshiya and Aaliya showcased their spring summer line with a runway show at Blue Sea in Worli. The colour palate included black, reds, aqua’s, pinks and whites. This is the first time the designers have made such a conscious effort to include lots of woven fabrics. They’ve been more comfortable using Jersey knits all this time. The show opened with cute tees in cartoon embellished motifs on jersey tops combined with hot shorts. There was some interesting diamante treatment as well on the jeans. Other silhouettes included ruched satin pants, Long gharghra’s and empire line embellished tops. The showstopper which had the stunning Yana Gupta wearing cobalt embroidered corset with a layered skirt, made a sweet surprise.

We felt the collection was better suited to a younger audience. The colour palate could have been a little more restrained, sticking to the blacks, reds, whites and denim. We do hope Araiya will make a comeback at fashion week next year, We missed them there this time round. Meanwhile please do check out their new store Araiya on Pedder Road.
