Respond to the season's call for stringy bikinis, beach parties and head-turning hair. All it takes is adequate protection from the scorching sunbeams with the correct products, says Sujata Assomull

Yes, we all know that too much sun is bad for you but once summer sets in, who can resist spending some time basking in the glow of those rays. Keep your beach bag well stocked with beauty remedies so that the elements do not damage your skin or hair. The right regime will keep you looking gorgeous while sitting in the sun and afterwards. The must-haves in every beach bag are suntan lotion, lip balm, leave-in conditioner and some aftersun. Be prepared and you will be protected.

Beach Bag Basics
Before heading out into the sun, get yourself a brightly coloured beach bag that’s roomy enough to carry everything you need. This bag is your sun survival kit. Always carry lots of suntan lotion and make sure you buy one from a well-reputed company. It needs to protect you from the sun so look for one with a SPF of at least 20. Shiseido Suncare Extra Smooth Sun Protection lotion for face and body has a SPF of 33 and is a good bet for most skin types. The ultimate for anyone who is very sensitive to the sun, is La Prairie’s Soleil Suisse Cellulaire Anti-Rides with a SPF of 50. No UVAs or UBSs will get through this lotion and it is light and smooth enough for use on the face. Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you step into the sun, as the product needs to be on your skin for a while before it starts working.
