Prince Charles visits him regularly. He accompanied Camilla Parker Bowles on her last trip to India. He has authored best-sellers on alternative medicine, on preserving health and energy in these fast-paced times. Bollywood is not to be left behind, with power player and superstar, Shah Rukh Khan and debonair director, Karan Johar, forming part of a fast growing coterie of celebrity clients. Meet Dr Mosharaf Ali, pioneer in integrated medicine. He offers alternative remedies, promoting ayurvedic principles while incorporating the old with new medical advancements and is founder of the Integrated Medical Centre in London. Nisha Paul leads the 'medical illuminator' into a freewheeling chat

My childhood... “…always comes back to me. I was born in Kolkata and, being close to my father, I saw him constantly helping others. At 12, I wanted to be a doctor. I was also influenced by my grandmother, whose homeopathic treatments cured so many people.”

Written books on… “…different aspects of health comprising emotional experiences. I have written five books, totally. My health bible spells out my philosophy and my fourth book, which is the nutritional bible, has sold over a quarter million copies worldwide.”

Traits that I identify with... “…are found in selective company, mostly in people who are self made, in those who have made something of their lives. The ability to divide time to do charitable work for the less fortunate is a great quality.”

Age teaches you... “…to mature and find a way to extend your knowledge to benefit future generations…to find a way to give back as much as you can.”

Lifestyle mantra… “…to use your recreational time to recreate your energy, not waste it…enjoy your vitality and sustain it.”

Success… “…comes with knowledge and experience. It’s the ability to deliver and make a difference.”

Celebrity patients… “…include Prince Charles, Kate Moss and Shah Rukh Khan, amongst others. We do not allow any paparazzi to park outside our premises and take pictures. A strict in-house policy of no
signatures of celebrities is followed, emphasising our conscious effort to put them at ease.”

I respect… “…Prince Charles the most. I know him closely and am sometimes amazed at how misunderstood he is. Prince Charles is a leader with fast knowledge and a deep concern for others. He is a religious person and never speaks ill of others and is an ideal example of someone who is neutral and endorses natural products.”

To unwind and relax… “…I write and listen to semi-classical music and enjoy going for long walks in the countryside. Twice a year, I organise trips and take a group of people trekking in the Himalayas. It’s beautiful out there, being in close
contact with nature.”

In the future I want to… “…set up an integrated health sanatorium and it will be the first of its kind in the UK. This centre will incorporate medicinal rejuvenation programmes along with natural therapies that empower the soul. People will have wider choices under one roof. In 2006, I will be releasing my women’s health bible, which will be an encyclopaedia for women to refer to. I have explored reasons covering the A to Z of their anatomy and the changing cycles that women go through in every decade. In the West, people believe women are exactly like men but I don’t agree. The East has a lot to offer and I want to bring about awareness of traditional Indian customs and the rationality behind them. I will also be doing a health programme for television.”
