The holiday season has finally arrived and it's time to go on a rampage, hopping from the office Christmas party to a New Year bash on a yacht. Clink those champagne flutes and get ready to splurge this season. Extravagant presents, sugar-sprinkled cakes, mistletoe kisses and an opportunity to get dressed with unrestrained abandon. Frivolous is the key word while styling a luxe wardrobe for a glam evening out.

Hot metal brushes softly against fur trims, while tartan adds some warmth to Christmas. Velvet, silk and brocade also play an important role this fall as vintage makes a huge comeback. Shimmering nets and laces all nestle along with floating chiffons and georgettes in most designer outlets.

The major trends for festive nights out this fall are Hot metal, New precious, Le smoking and Vintage glam. All these trends will make sure you dazzle in the limelight as you leave darkness way behind. After all every woman needs a little magical sparkle.

Shyness is passé; make bold moves in body fitting dresses with a golden sheen. Plunge those necklines and hitch those hems higher. Rohit Khanna and Rahul Gandhi have some sexy jersey dresses with the right amount of metal. Ponchos with metallic sequins have also hit an all-time high on the chic chart. Gold, bronze, copper and silver are all included in the Hot metal palette. Accessorize with snakeskin clutches in molten silver and dark bronze. Beaten metal pendants worn with leather strings and long gold hoops and danglers are also very interesting ways to add some more sheen. Strappy t-bars are the only way to add the much needed extra oomph to this hot and steamy look.

For the more opulent in style comes New precious. Monisha Jaising's kurtis and slinky tops in net and georgette, studded with crystals are an excellent example of this brand new trend. Look a little flirty in Malini Ramani's asymmetrical chiffon skirts with tiny sparkling pink flowers and mirrorwork waist band. Pink, white, silver and cyan are the right colours for a sparkly evening. Fun handbags with dangling sequins will add to this trends flirty mood. Glittering beaded danglers and charm bracelets are a good investment. Wear high heeled roman sandals in a flurry of pure colours.

For the more classic and conservative, is the Marlene Dietrich-inspired Le smoking trend. The little black number you will always love, no matter how many New Year bashes it has seen, plays a role in this trend. If you're sick of all the frothy feminity and want to go more masculine, Le smoking makes perfect sense in a black silk tuxedo jacket and slim pants. Shahab Durazi has some exquisite black and white beaded dresses and jackets all cut to perfection. Black, white and silver are the right shades for these ensembles.

Hold a slick black clutch against long red fingernails in one hand and a cigarette holder in the other. Wear jewellery the Coco Chanel way, with long pearl strands in the neck and diamond solitaires in the fingers. Black or white court shoes would add to the formality much needed in this look. Polka-dotted pumps give it a classic element.

Old is gold this season and looking Vintage is looking great. With style icons like Nicole Kidman and Sarah Jessica Parker going vintage designer, it is the perfect time to hit the antique clothes stores or dig out the accessories from your grandmother's collection. Combine embroidered tie-up silk corsets by Lascelles Symons with antique chiffon saris. Feel divine in retro style chiffon dresses trimmed with bows and roses. Velvet jackets with satin ribbons can be worn with slinky silk pants and sultry lace camisoles. The knee faux fur edged coats lend this trend a luxurious touch. Colours are pale blue, dusky gold, black, purple and burgundy. Small beaded clasp bags or evening bags with a French tapestry fabric are ideal. Victorian style brooches are a must have as are diamond chandelier earrings. Chunky rings in amethyst and rubies add extravagantly to the vintage glam feel. Slip your feet into heaven with fur-trimmed sandals or slim diamante strap heels.

Self-indulgence is encouraged. Satisfy all your whims and fancies for this is the occasion to make merry. Holidays call for bling bling and even if your outfit is a little conservative, make sure your accessories aren't. You may even bag a prince if you dress up glam and outshine Cinderella at the ball.
